About Dr. C
I was born in Kansas City, KS. Due to frequent moves, I went to 10 schools by the time I graduated high school, living in Pratt KS, Maryville and St. Joseph Mo area prior to graduating high school in Liberty, MO. I enjoyed playing sports, singing and being outside with friends. My faith and scriptures have helped me to endure trials of life including poverty, by helping me strive for an eternal perspective during hard times. I was raised by both my mother and father. My mother taught me the importance of hard work and love for God and others. My Father encouraged reaching for dreams, no matter how big. I loved being with my 4 siblings, 3 brothers and 1 sister. My 5th sibling died at her birth. This has been a steady motivator for choosing to be a doctor and enduring the hard work needed.
I served a two-year mission to the great souls in Hawaii. I value that time as very precious and sacred as I learned that Heavenly Father answers prayers for us and others. He is very generous with revelation and love.
I married Michelle Lehnardt and we are parents of 5 children. Michelle is the most personable, honest, faithful and beautiful woman I know. She is a genuine minister who serves selflessly with special sensitivity to young mother's needs. She enjoys reading, participating in triathlons, creating beauty all around and being with family. I have enjoyed writing poems to her for anniversaries, birthdays and Valentine’s Day. As a tribute to the Hawaiian people and the important things I learned, all our children have Hawaiian middle names. We are very proud of who our children are and who they are becoming. We get so much joy being with them and watching them progress through life.
I graduated in Economics and completed my premedical courses at Brigham Young University. I enjoy BYU entertainment, whether it's a sports event, performing arts or BYUtv. I love BYU and it's motto, "Enter to learn, Go forth to serve". BYU teaches the priority to serve God and others while making a positive difference in our communities. I hope to fulfill that purpose in the life I live.
I went to Osteopathic Medical School in Kansas City, MO. I then finished my training in the Family Practice residency in Johnson City, NY as a Chief Resident. I have been an ER physician, Hospitalist for intensive care and medical patients. I have also delivered over 50 births while in NY. It has been an honor to help the True Healer and Physician, our Savior. He heals, I help. I currently live in Bentonville, Arkansas and work as a Family Physician in Centerton, Arkansas. I enjoy medical education and serve as an Associate Professor for two medical schools preparing medical students for their future careers of choice.
Professionally, I have served on various medical committees and as Chief of Medical Staff. In the past I served on hospital Physician Leadership Committee, Special Olympics medical advisor and Clinically Integrated Network Finance. Currently I am on an Osteopathic Medical School Advisory Committee, Mission Medical advisor and local Clinically Integrated Network Quality committee. Nearly every month, I teach medical students as they rotate with me at my clinic. Teaching has always been important to me as we train the next generation of physicians.
I was a Major in the Army Reserve, serving tours in Camp Shelby, Mississippi and served as Battalion Surgeon in Bucca Iraq. While in Iraq, although I was rarely in danger, it was a time for me to understand that God not only nurtures but presides, protects and provides for all our needs. Heavenly help is available to our left and our right to bear us up whether in deserts of danger or back home where mothers, temporarily alone, are juggling hard moments.
I don’t speak other languages yet, but I have used sign language a little since I was a teenager. I love various cultures and foods. Although I thought I would spend my retirement years golfing, fishing and hunting, I have learned I really enjoy traveling to the various people and cultures the world has to offer.
I have always wanted to join my oldest brother, Robin, in writing children’s books. He is an animator. Being able to write real accounts of those I admire is a joy. There are so many influential people in my life starting with my family and children. I look forward to writing many tributes for many of them. If I could have my wish, I would do it for all of them, but it would be thousands due to the many people I have passed by in my profession and life. Everyone has a story of triumph to tell. I hope to tell many of them and others to enjoy them as they are published.
Time with friends and family is precious to me and lifts me up. For fun and variety, I enjoy the outdoors, competing in games or sports, especially golf. I enjoy watching movies in many genres but especially underdog type movies or listening to family friendly stand-up comedians. I think the most important thing we can do is love God and others through kindness, patience, sacrifice, being loyal and willing to forgive. I have much to learn and improve, but I have had joy throughout my life up to this point and look forward to much more.
